The Borgen Project is a non-profit organization that aims to address social issues such as poverty, hunger, education, and human rights worldwide and make poverty a focus of our foreign policy.
In 1999 Clint Borgen, who worked as a volunteer in refugee camps during the Kosovo war, recognized the necessity of establishing an organization that focuses on reduction of extreme poverty. In 2003, the Borgen Project organization created by Clint Borgen was born to become a national campaign with volunteers from 1952 U.S cities.
How does the organization work?
The organization encourages all the volunteers to meet with Unites States congressional leaders to ask for support for poverty reduction legislation. They also aim to mobilize people worldwide to make global poverty a political priority.
Besides concentrating on poverty reduction, the Borgen Project aims to raise awareness of the global issues and their possible effects on people, especially countries in need.
Supporting the Girls LEAD Act, protecting the international affairs budget, and the Global Health Innovation Act are among the primary issues that the organization is addressing.
Moreover, the advocacy focuses on other social issues such as starving and global food security; newborn child and mother survival; and access to clean water and sanitation.
